The Paqua team were thrilled to win the Environmental Innovation of the Year award at Portsmouth’s inaugural Innovation Awards. This prestigious accolade further cements Paqua’s commitment to providing sustainable, cutting-edge solutions to global water challenges.
Organised by The News and JPI Media, in association with Portsmouth City Council, the event took place at the Village Hotel at Lakeside North Business Park on 4th November 2021. Drawing over 120 guests, the Innovation Awards celebrated exceptional advancements from a broad spectrum of sectors, including industry, health, and education. Full coverage of the event appeared in The Portsmouth News, reflecting the city’s growing reputation as a hub for technological and environmental progress.
The Environmental Innovation award specifically recognised the remarkable credentials of PaquaVida purification units. Unlike conventional Reverse Osmosis systems, which consume large amounts of energy and generate substantial waste, PaquaVida units operate with minimal power demand and produce very little wastewater. These systems rely primarily on a benign mixture of salt and low-energy inputs—such as wind or solar-generated electricity—to efficiently transform contaminated water into wholesome drinking water that meets international standards.
In addition to these advantages, PaquaVida purification units are self-cleaning and do not require large quantities of disposable filters. They also significantly reduce the reliance on hazardous chemicals, making them more environmentally friendly than traditional water treatment solutions. By incorporating solar panels, wind turbines, and battery backups, PaquaVida units can operate in remote or off-grid locations, sustainably purifying water drawn from ponds, lakes, and rivers with minimal environmental impact.
This powerful combination of low energy requirements, self-cleaning technology, minimal chemical usage, and dramatically reduced waste all contributed to PaquaVida’s recognition as an award-winning environmental innovation.
Nick Scott, Technical Manager at Paqua, commented:
‘This award means a great deal to the Paqua team. It honours the excellence of the innovation underpinning our PaquaVida water purification approach. Our units represent a completely different way of treating drinking water, and this recognition underscores the significant environmental benefits that our solutions deliver.’
Looking ahead, Paqua believes that PaquaVida’s advanced, sustainable water treatment system has the potential to transform water infrastructure in a wide range of settings, from rural communities to industrial complexes and beyond.
